I am linking up with Shay (Mix and Match Mama) and Erika (A Little Bit of Everything) today. The second Wednesday of each month these ladies share a new “How We” topic. If you’re interested in participating in the future, check out the graphic below.
This month we’re sharing:
How We…Do Goals/Resolutions/Etc…
This is my second year to use Lara Casey’s Powersheets and I enjoy them so much! I love how they help you to set intentional goals…big or small. The prep work is hard work, but very rewarding when you get through it and figure out the things that matter to you and the why’s behind them.
I identified six goals that I would like to focus on in the 2018 year.
- Goal: Put Jesus first/Grow in my relationship with Him.
- Why: I want others to see Christ reflected in my life. I want my legacy of loving Christ to show up when I am 80 years old.
- Action Steps: reading through the Bible in a year (so excited about this!); memorize Scripture; write the Word; prayer
- Why: I want others to see Christ reflected in my life. I want my legacy of loving Christ to show up when I am 80 years old.
- Goal: Develop a healthier lifestyle ( I’m calling it my ” lose 35 by 35″).
- Why: To be able to do more with my girls. Feel good about myself. Have more confidence.
- Action Steps: join WeightWatchers; join gym; meal plan/prep; take vitamins and floss daily
- Why: To be able to do more with my girls. Feel good about myself. Have more confidence.
- Goal: Cultivate a life-giving/grace-filled home.
- Why: I want my girls to have wonderful memories of their home-life.
- Action Steps: clear the clutter; weekly preparation; decorate the house
- Why: I want my girls to have wonderful memories of their home-life.
- Goal: Cultivate self-care
- Why: Me time rejuvenates me and makes me better for my family.
- Action Steps: schedule “me time” regularly; read (50 books this year)
- Why: Me time rejuvenates me and makes me better for my family.
- Goal: Develop/Cultivate my passions
- Why: I want a side-hustle in order to not be confined to my 8-5 job
- Action Steps: blog consistently; look into the Dave Ramsey’s Financial Coaching class/Making Things Happen conference; learn photography and hand-lettering
- Why: I want a side-hustle in order to not be confined to my 8-5 job
- Goal: Simplify
- Why: Too much stuff everywhere stresses me out!
- Action Steps: declutter the house…room by room; organize photos; clean up e-mail/computer files/social media
- Why: Too much stuff everywhere stresses me out!
In reviewing all these goals I would like to achieve… a couple of words came to mind and they were “change” and “transform”. But in looking more into both of those words, they didn’t really describe what I wanted. Then I came across the word “refocus” and knew instantly that this would be my word for the year.
Refocus means to focus attention/resources on something new or different.
This is definitely something I want to do in my life. I want to refocus my attention to things that matter the most to me. I want to adjust my focus on me (spiritually, physically, and mentally) and my family.
One reason I enjoy Powersheets so much is that not only does it help you determine what you want your goals to be, but helps to break it down into smaller manageable steps monthly, weekly, and daily. One message the Cultivate What Matters team stresses is “progress not perfection”. So when I lapse a day in my progress, I have learned to not just give up, but to give myself grace and just pick up on the next day.
Here is my tending list for the month of January 2018. Now that I am over a week in, I see that I put too much on here and feel overwhelmed. Lesson learned…less is more in subsequent months.
How do you make goals and keep them?
Until next time…keep it simple.

Your planner looks great! I definitely want to focus on being healthy this year. I did that fairly well last year with the food, but I need to up my activity, which can be difficult sometimes. I hope you have a great year and do well on your goals.

I wish I could read 50 books in a year!! Do you have a Goodreads that we can follow along?

It’s hard to read a lot when you have 2 little ones and working full-time, but it’s something I’ve always loved to do and it is something that relaxes me and makes me a better person, wife, mom when I make time to do it. Yes, I have a Goodreads account (hope I did the link correctly…my first time inserting a link into a comment…if it didn’t work, someone please let me know!) and I would love to have you as a friend over there!
