Hi everyone! Can you believe we are in the middle of September already?!? To me this year (especially this summer) has just flown by! Here I am finally posting the books I read in July and August. Hope you enjoy!
All We Ever Wanted – Emily Giffin
I really wanted to love this book because I enjoyed a lot of Emily Giffin’s other books and I know she was trying to write something a little different than her usual, but this one just didn’t do it for me. I wanted to keep reading just to see how it all ended, but it wasn’t something that I was just chomping at the bit wanting to get back to reading to see what happened.

Us Against You – Fredrik Backman
So this is the “sequel” to Beartown which I enjoyed tremendously earlier this year (see post here). This one fell a little flat in comparison to Beartown (which typically seems to happen with sequels). It was still good and I enjoyed it, but I was hoping it was going to be just as good or better than Beartown and it just wasn’t in my opinion. I do enjoy Fredrik Backman’s writing and am looking forward to picking up more of his books soon!

The Book of Essie – Meghan MacLean Weir
So fun fact…I live right down the road from the Duggar family…yes the family from the “19 Kids and Counting”/”Counting On” shows on TLC. I used to keep up with the show and watch it regularly, but now I just really don’t have much time to watch TV and instead I follow all of them on social media and my co-workers and I keep each other up to date on things we hear/see around town. Anyways…I picked up this book because the premise sort of reminded me of their family and their life on TV and since I’m intrigued with their family/show, I thought it would be an interesting read. I liked it just okay…I kept reading because I wanted to know what happened, but it wasn’t anything special to write home about. However, I have to say that the cover was really pretty and I might be persuaded just to buy it to keep on my bookshelf just because of its cover!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – Mary Ann Shaffer/Annie Barrows
I had read this years ago and to be quite honest I can’t remember if I ever finished it or not. I picked it up this time because I saw that Netflix was coming out with the movie version and I wanted to read the book before watching the movie. I am so glad I did! This time around I loved it!!! Usually I am not a fan of books written only in letters, but the author did a great job weaving all the letters together and keeping it interesting. Highly recommend to people who like historical fiction with a romance intertwined in.
