Book Report – June 2018

So where do I begin? Man, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything in this little space of mine. It has just been a crazy busy past few months with both homelife and worklife. I have just felt so overwhelmed lately and my blog (along with a couple of other things) just had to take a backseat. It was hard for me to give stuff up, but it was for the best and I realize it is just for a season. I don’t know if I will be back to trying to post more regularly or if it will just have to keep being sporadic for a time, but I do know I don’t want to give up on this…I really enjoy blogging and have so many ideas I want to talk about/implement in this space. I’m just realizing that now is not the time to try to do it all. So anyways…I thought the easiest thing to talk about to get back in the groove would be books! So here goes…

These are the books I’ve read in June and I will have another post soon with my March, April, and May reads up soon.

June 2018

So there were no standouts this month for me. They were all enjoyable reads and I looking forward to reading other books by these authors, but none of them this month just “wowed” me.

The Little Bookshop on the Seine – Rebecca Raisin   3/5

This was a cute/feel-good read about a bookshop owner named Sarah who has the opportunity to switch running bookstores with a friend she knows in Paris. This is so out of Sarah’s comfort zone, but she goes ahead and agrees to go to Paris for 6 months. Problems ensue with her taking over running a much larger bookstore than she is used too and having to manage employees, but she ends up finding herself and becomes a stronger person because of it and builds lasting relationships. This was a cute/adorable/feel-good read and I am looking forward to picking up more books by this author in the future.

The Cafe By the Sea – Jenny Colgan   3/5

This was a delightful little read by the author who wrote “The Bookshop on the Corner” which I reviewed in December and really enjoyed. This book was about a woman who has a crush on her boss and when he finds out there is an important business deal going on in her hometown (which she had “escaped” from years previous), he wants her to go back home to help gain townspeople’s confidence in solidifying the deal. She goes back and gets more then she bargains for. This was a cute read and I can’t wait to read others in this series.

When Life Gives you Lululemons – Lauren Weisberger  3/5

First of all, I absolutely love the title to this book! I think it is so clever! This book is by the author of “The Devil Wears Prada”. I can’t remember if I’ve read that book, but it definitely is one of my favorite movies! I was excited when I saw this was available at my local library and I snatched it right up. It was a lighthearted, funny, easy summer-read!

I Said Yes: My Story of Heartbreak, Redemption, and True Love – Emily Johnson Maynard  3/5

So I will admit, I used to love watching The Bachelor and The Bachelorette…now I just don’t have time to watch a lot of TV and definitely do not have the time that it takes to devote multiple hours a week to watching just one show. However, I was a loyal follower of both of Emily’s seasons and so when I saw she had a book out, I could not wait to read it! I enjoyed getting to hear her story and learning more about how The Bachelor franchise operates behind the scenes. I admire her bravery for opening up about some vulnerable times in her life and commend her for not being shy about her faith. This was an enjoyable read!

In looking back over these, I noticed all of these were just nice, lighthearted, easy reads. I guess I gravitated toward this style of writing this month since the past few months have been very busy and overwhelming for me (personally, home, and at work) and I needed some happy-go-lucky reads to escape with.

I’m so glad I’m finally back to my little spot of the Internet. Hopefully, I will get back to posting more regularly. If you have read any good books this month, please share…I am always looking for new books/authors to read!
