Yay, it’s time for my one of my favorite posts of the month! September was a pretty good reading month for me. I read five fiction and two non-fiction (which reading two non-fiction in one month is pretty good for me). I forgot to include a book in last month’s post, so I’m including on this month’s. It’s one I listened to an audiobook with the girls and I think I enjoyed it more than Emmalyn did. :o)
Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan
This was a fun read! It did seem a little long and maybe a little too wordy at times, but the storyline was really cute and I enjoyed all the characters’ stories weaved throughout the book. I didn’t know much about Singapore/the Asian culture going into the book and I don’t know how much of what was portrayed was true to life, but it was interesting learning a little about a different culture than the one I have grown up in. I’m excited to read the other two books in this trilogy. I did get to go see the movie that was based on this book and it was super cute and would like to watch it again soon! So excited that another movie based on this series is in the works!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved/P.S. I Still Love You/Always & Forever, Lara Jean – Jenny Han
I picked up this trilogy because I wanted to watch the Netflix movie based on the first book (same reason I picked up Crazy Rich Asians too). These books were fun reads…definitely can tell they are YA, but enjoyed the storyline and getting to follow Lara Jean navigate her high school years. These touched on many different issues that come up during the high school years – family, social media issues, relationships with friends/boyfriends/older people-mentors, college dilemmas…I enjoyed the movie and am curious to see if they decide to make other ones based on the other two books.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – 4 out of 5 stars – Fiction/Paperback/Purchased

Always and Forever, Lara Jean – 4 out of 5 stars – Fiction/Hardback/Library
Ghosted – Rosie Walsh
This book was a lot different than what I thought it was going to be and because of that I did enjoy it. It was a bit slow for me, but I wanted to see how everything played out so it kept me intrigued enough to keep reading. It was a very interesting premise, but I was a little disappointed with the ending. I felt like the author just wrapped it up a little too cleanly/quickly for me. That being said, I did enjoy it for a different kind of read than my normal.

All I have to say is…Go buy this book! You will not regret it!!! I will be sharing this one with ALL my friends. I’m not going to say much here, because I will have a post that is dedicated to this book alone very soon. Loved this book!

The 5 Second Rule – Mel Robbins
I had watched a YouTube video from Amy Landino on her channel AmyTV (I’m sorry that I don’t remember what particular episode it was) and she talked very highly of this book and several of her commenters had excellent things to say about this book so I immediately reserved it at the library. All in all, I actually loved the concept of this book and definitely would agree with the science behind it and am looking forward to implementing it for early mornings (when Claire is sleep-trained). However, I felt like this book had a lot of fluff and felt a little forced to me. Honestly I did a lot of skimming, but still got some important things out of the book. I think I’d prefer to hear Mel Robbins actually speak about this topic and it is on my to-do list to find her talking about this on YouTube somewhere…I think it will be interesting talk for sure!

The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy – Jeanne Birdsall
This is the book from August that I forgot to include in last month’s post. This book brought me back to my early reading days. This would have been the kind of book I would have loved reading growing up. It was so reminiscent of The Moffats or Betsy-Tacy series (and other books that I grew up reading), just that good-hearted, clean, kid-feeling read. So glad I was able to listen to this on audiobook with my girls. I know they are probably too young (especially Claire) to grasp a lot of things in this book, but it was nice to get to start exposing them to books like this. I want them to stay young for as long as they can, but I also can not wait to share my love of reading with them by reading books like this in the future. This will definitely be a re-read for us when they are older! I have the second one on hold at the library and can’t wait to start listening to it!!!

I really liked the movie version of Crazy Rich Asians- I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the book. And I haven’t read that children’s book, but I do love reading kid’s/middle grade books sometimes!

Yay for Crazy Rich Asians! I have not read To All the Boys yet. Everyone keeps raving about the Netflix movie. High school romance YA is my least favorite though, so I’m little nervous about it.
