Oh, this was such a cozy read! I enjoyed it so much! First of all…set on Prince Edward Island – my dream place to visit thanks to Anne Shirley! Secondly, a book about family and relationships going through life changes and challenges, intermingled with a little bit of romance…I’m sold!
I fell in love with the two main characters, Meg and Oliver who have been at odds since high school when due to unknown reasons, Oliver kicked and destroyed Meg’s prize-winning science project. A few years later we find Oliver working on Meg’s father’s lobster boat with Meg’s father offering to sell the family business to Oliver due to Meg’s mother being very ill and needing to be taken care of. Meg catches wind of this and tells her dad to sell it to her instead of to the “boy who ruined her life”. Her dad says he’ll wait and let them work together for a season and then make a decision on who is more suitable. Well, I’m not going to spoil it, but I’m sure you can guess what happens from there.
Interwoven throughout the book there is some grief, some heartache, and other life hardships that I felt the author tackled very well and left me feeling hopeful-like. I am eagerly anticipating a second book as the author left it open-ended with another storyline possibly coming to light.
Paperback – I received a free copy of this book from Revell Reads for the purpose of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Until next time…keep it simple!
