**I received an advance copy of this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.**
“Are you tired inside and out? Are you overwhelmed with expectations and pressures, weighed down by the belief that you’re not good enough, talented enough, or spiritual enough to measure up? You are not alone.” – from the back cover
I started Nothing to Prove: Why We Can Stop Trying So Hard by Jennie Allen a few months ago and while I am not completely done with it yet, it has been just what I’ve needed each time I’ve picked it up to read.
Jennie Allen invites us to stop doing so much and trying so hard in order to be what we think we need to be. She encourages us to stop asking the question, “Am I enough?” and points us to the answer that “No you aren’t, but Jesus is.”
I don’t know about you,but that is something I need to hear on a daily basis. I feel like I am constantly struggling to try to do more, to be more, to prove something to the world…when all I need to do is make knowing and loving Jesus my main focus in life and then watch what He does in and through me. How encouraging is that…that I can stop striving and trying so hard and just let God take the lead. What a burden is lifted off if I will stop believing what the world says/focuses on and believe that Jesus is enough.
This book is very encouraging and I think the message of it will resonate with many people in that they can stop trying so hard to prove themselves and to just look to Jesus. He is all we need…He is enough.
Until next time…keep it simple.
