How are we already to June?!? The month of March seemed to drag by, but once we were passed that…time has seemed to just have flown by.
Anne, at In Residence, hosts a linkup on the first Wednesday of every month and invites readers to share a few things that they are currently up to. Be sure to head over to Anne’s blog and see what everyone is up to this month.
feeling – Overwhelmed with everything going on in the world/our country right now.
wearing – I ordered a new blue jean jacket from Nordstrom and I have been wearing it so much lately! The brand is Kut from the Kloth and I like it because it has a little stretch to it and is a tad fitted. It’s a little pricey, but I got it when it was 40% off and am super glad I did! Highly recommend!
buying – Some summer clothes for the girls and some summer shoes for Emmalyn.
craving – Normalcy. I just can’t get over going into a store or the doctor’s office and everyone is wearing masks and avoiding each other in the aisles and you can’t see peoples’ smiles. I hope I never get used to it and we will get back to that part of being “normal” sooner than later.
discussing – I am trying to have “important” conversations with the girls and focus on one subject a month. With Emmalyn, this month I am trying to talk to her about how to handle it when her friends are being mean to her. She has a little girl at daycare this summer that has been mean to her in the past in after-school care and she has been anxious about going because of this little girl. We want her to stand up for herself, but not be mean about it and that is hard to explain how to do to a 6 year old. With Claire, I am trying to talk to her about how not only is she pretty on the outside, but that being pretty also comes from the inside and how being sweet and kind to others helps her prettiness to shine through even more. She has become a “girly-girl” and loves her dresses, make-up, shoes, etc…and I want her to not think that “dressing-up” makes her pretty, but that it is also how she acts that makes her pretty as well.
I don’t know if they understand what I’m trying to tell them, but maybe it will plant some seeds that will eventually take root and someday it will make more sense to them.
Well, that’s all I have right now. Check back next month when we will be discussing what we are currently cooking, photographing, sharing, trying, and wondering.
Until next time…keep it simple!

Cute jean jacket! It sounds like your girls have a good mom to teach them the right lessons.

The conversations we have to have with our children sometimes are heartbreaking! Overwhelmed is such a good word for right now, I feel the same.
And I miss seeing the smiles on the faces of people in my community as well. 🙁

Ohh yes I love what you said about craving normalcy. I definitely crave that as well. And I love the denim jacket you found! I have one that I’ve owned for ages but I still wear it all the time!

Denim jackets are the best! And I’m with you on feeling overwhelmed – but in light of how much there is to think about and teach our kids about I love this concrete idea of tackling one big subject per month with your kids as a place to start. Everything from standing up for yourself to standing up for others – so important!

I love the topics that you’re addressing with your girls. Even if they don’t understand it all, it’s good to hear and little bits will definitely sink in and hopefully help and make them feel better.
Yeah, going out and seeing people in masks is very strange. Granted, I don’t go out that often, but when I do…surreal.

That is the second super cute jean jacket I have seen lately. I got rid of all mine awhile back – when I convinced myself I was too old for jean jackets! I’m beginning to regret that…and think I might need to repurchase. I can think of so many times I could/would wear one!!
