Disclaimer…I wrote this post the week after Emmalyn started Kindergarten and kept meaning to add pictures, but kept forgetting until now. Even though we are a month out, I am not going to change my wording and just pretend it’s the week after when I’m posting this.
So last week started a new chapter in our family’s life. Emmalyn started Kindergarten. How can that be already?!? It seems like yesterday she was a newborn and now she is starting school.
We went to Kindergarten Open House last week and got to see her classroom and meet her teacher. I am very happy with the teacher we got. I have been praying all year for the right teacher for her and I think God answered that prayer. Also there are two kids from her first daycare she attended that are in there with her and so even though she doesn’t remember them, it’s nice for me to know a couple of kids and their moms. So God even answered in a much bigger way than I even thought to ask by including that.
Robert and I took off on Monday to spend the day with her and take her swimming. Unfortunately I had a meeting for a Government Finance Officer’s Board I’m on come up and I had to go out of town overnight Sunday, but the meeting was early Monday morning and I got back in town just as the pool was opening. We went and spent a couple of hours there and had a fun time!
Her teacher had sent a note home with us on Open House night to be read the night before Kindergarten. So we opened it and it was the cutest little poem about “Jitter Glitter” which she had included as well. She had also recorded a video of her reading “The Night Before Kindergarten” on an app the school uses to connect with parents and so we watched that. It was the perfect start to going to bed and waking up for such a big day the next morning!
Tuesday was her first day of Kindergarten and Robert and I both went and walked her in. I was so proud of her, she walked right in and sat down at the little table and started playing. She was so confident and just waved bye to us and that was it (I admit…I wish she would’ve been a tad clingy just enough to want to give hugs, but I know it is a good thing that she is so confident). Her teacher sent us updates throughout the day which helped give me and Robert some peace of mind, but I still couldn’t wait to go pick her up!
She is attending an After-School Program there at the school since we can’t pick her up until our workday is over. We met and went to pick her up together. We hadn’t been told where to go to pick her up (and didn’t cross either of our minds to ask…Major Parent Fail), so we were trying different doors that were all locked until finally I saw a teacher that was leaving and asked her where to go (side note – we would have never found it ourselves). We got her and in the car she was like “This was the best day ever! This was the best school ever!”. All things you want to hear!!! She was super tired that first night because up until now she has taken naps at daycare and here at Kindergarten they don’t…but before she went to sleep she said she was excited to go back to Kindergarten the next day.
I am so glad she has enjoyed it and hope it continues throughout the year. I’m excited to see her learn and grow as a little person this year!
Until next time…keep it simple!
