Reading Lately – February 2021

Hi Friends! I can’t believe we are into March already. I had both 3 and 4 star books this month and one of those 4 star reviews was a non-fiction this month. Let’s get to it!

Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan

Well, you guys know I’ve been on a Jenny Colgan kick the past few months. Her books feel like such cozy reads to me and are perfect for during the long cold winter months. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as some of her other ones, but it was still an enjoyable read. It was so funny, Robert asked me what the book I was reading was about and I started to explain it some…a lady lives in a lighthouse, she has a puffin bird as a pet, she makes friends with the widow of the guy she was sleeping with who died in a boating accident, etc…and he starts laughing at how crazy it all sounded once you put it all out there. Somehow though, the author made it all work together and be enjoyable at the same time.

The Late Bloomers’ Club by Louise Miller

First of all, I love the cover of this book! I don’t know what it is, but I really like pictures of pretty bicycles! This book was such a feel good read and I just loved the small town atmosphere and how they just all come together to root for one of their own. I enjoyed seeing the main character come into her own and figure out what she really wanted from life instead of trying to live her life doing what other people wanted her to do. Stories like that just resonate a lot with me, because I am a people pleaser and the older I get the more I figure out what I want from life instead of listening to other people’s opinions of what I should do or how I should act.

The Book Club by Mary Alice Monroe

I wanted to like this one more than I did. It is a book about middle-aged moms that just feel stuck in their lives. I liked seeing all the varying viewpoints from each of the ladies, but a couple of the ladies grated on my nerves, because they just seemed like whiny-babies at different parts of the book and I just wanted to tell them…life is hard, get over it, and move on. Anyways…that’s probably a little harsh. I did like it and will look for more books by the author in the future.

Share Your Stuff. I’ll Go First.: 10 Questions to Take Your Friendships to the Next Level by Laura Tremaine

First of all, look at me reading a non-fiction book. Yay me! Second of all, I really like this cover ya’ll! It is so pretty! It stinks that I bought it on Kindle, because it would look so pretty on my bookshelf, but oh well. I liked it enough that I might just go out and buy a hard copy of it just to do that. I really enjoyed this book! I have been a fan of Laura Tremaine’s since she started on Sorta Awesome and honestly I think I even read some of her blog posts prior to that and didn’t realize it. I appreciated how she put her stories out there and I enjoyed how she asked questions that made you stop and reflect about different areas of your own life. This will be a book that I come back to and take time to journal my answers to the questions she asks.

I recently finished The Secret Life of Addie LaRue and The Guest List and you’ll have to check back next month to see my thoughts on them! I am currently reading Stealing Home – the 1st book in the Sweet Magnolia series.I really enjoyed the first season on Netflix (however not as much as Virgin River) and I’m curious to see how the books compare.
