I am so disappointed that I missed out on last month’s link-up with Shay from Mix and Match Mama because I wanted to document this “weird” time we are living though. I started drafting the post, but never got to finish it due to the craziness that has stemmed from COVID-19. But in all actuality, this month’s post is not much different than what last month’s would’ve been like.
What We’re Eating This Week:
I’ve been proud of us, we have been fixing and eating a lot more meals at home since being “stuck-at-home”. Our grocery bill has increased, but our eating out has decreased significantly which has been nice. Also, since I am home with the girls more I am noticing how much they eat…they are constantly saying they are hungry and I am trying to come up with new things they can have for snacks.
What I’m Reminiscing About:
Pre-COVID19.
What I’m Loving:
I signed up for the StepBet app a few weeks ago and I have enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It has helped me to significantly increase my step count daily and I can tell it has helped me to feel better (both mentally and physically). I know when I go back to work full-time it’s going to be harder to meet my step goals, but this app has helped to increase my motivation and I know I’ll figure out creative ways to get my steps in.
What We’ve Been Up To:
Spending a lot of time outside. It’s been nice getting to spend four days straight a week with my little family.
The girls and I have been going walking at a neighborhood near us that has a little pond and feeding the ducks. We’ve taken a few rides on the side-by-side down to the creek near us and playing in the water on warm days. We have also been making our fair share of chalk pictures on our driveway. These are moments I don’t want to forget and not take for granted because I will probably never get to have this extra daily time with them again.
What I’m Dreading:
Going back to work full-time.
What I’m Excited About:
Claire’s 3rd birthday this week. I know it’s not going to be a “normal” birthday celebration for her, but I’m still trying to make it a special day for her! Since it’s her birthday week, here are some pictures of her through the years.
Also the day before Claire’s birthday is Robert’s and my 9-year wedding anniversary. I don’t think we will be doing anything too special, but at least it’s another little thing to get to celebrate during this time.
What I’m Watching/Reading:
Watching:
Since I read Little Fires Everywhere last month, I have started watching the show on Hulu. I’m only a couple of episodes in and even though it’s different than the book, I am liking it so far.
Robert and I have also started watching Schitt’s Creek on Netflix. It’s so pointless and not something I would typically watch, but it’s just something light and funny to watch in the evening before bed.
Reading:
Check back next week for my list of books I read in April. Check out March’s book post here!
What I’m Listening To:
I have started listening to Melanie Shankle’s new book “On the Bright Side” when I’ve been walking on my lunch breaks and I’ve really been enjoying it!
What I’m Wearing:
Comfy/workout type clothes four days a week and dressing for work the other three days (we’ve been allowed to wear jeans during this time the City has been closed to the public, which has been nice).
What I’m Doing This Weekend:
We finally ordered some new furniture/storage pieces for the girls’ playroom this past weekend and it should be here in time to set up this weekend, so we will be busy sorting/organizing toys and putting together furniture. I know it’s a big chore, but I am looking forward to seeing the finished result!
What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month:
Well, technically Claire’s birthday is next month so that’s one thing I’m looking forward to.
I guess I’m also looking forward to nicer weather. With everything going on there isn’t much available that we can do or events to look forward to. Had this been a normal time we would have been looking forward to Emmalyn’s Kindergarten program/graduation, Claire’s daycare program, and my big annual work conference I attend every year (this year it was supposed to be in in New Orleans).
What Else Is New:
I’m struggling with some things right now (pretty much like everyone else on earth during this time), but last week was a pretty rough week for me work-wise. I am trying to trust God and know that His plans are better than mine…but boy it is hard to do. God has been showing me though that He is here with me and I can trust Him. One verse He has recently put into mind and has helped to give me peace (not only about work, but also this COVID-19 pandemic) is Philippians 4:6 – “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
I hope that verse helps to encourage you with whatever you may be going through right now as well.
Until next time…keep it simple!

I did find it hard to write about different things than last month’s WUW post. It has felt like more of the same with a little bit more acceptance. We have done some of the chalk stained glass too and it’s been a lot of fun.
Happy Birthday to your daughter! My birthday is on Saturday 🙂
