Today I am linking up with Shay at “Mix and Match Mama” with the What’s Up Wednesday link-up. This is one of my favorite posts I try to do every month. I think it will be fun to go back and look through these and see what was going on in life during this past year.
What We’re Eating This Week: Robert has been out of town this week, so meals have been a little off. So instead of sharing meals I’m just going to share something that I have been having a least 3-4 times a week and seem to crave it daily…I have been getting the Peanut Butter Cup smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe like crazy lately. Honestly it’s not even that great (I know there are yummier more healthier smoothies out there), but this is the one that I have been craving this past month. I think it’s crazy that I have been on a smoothie kick in the middle of winter…who does that?!?
What I’m Reminiscing About: Being a young child again with hardly any worries or cares. How I had so much time to read books, play outside, watch tv, play with my sister, etc…I love how Emmalyn and Claire are in this stage now and hope I can help keep them in it for awhile. Because while being a grown-up has its perks, being a grown-up is HARD work.
What I’m Loving: Well as talked about above…I am loving the Peanut Butter Cup smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
I have been loving taking long baths at night with my favorite bath salts and just sitting there reading or watching a show. I’ve been trying to do this a couple of times a week and am really enjoying it.
I am loving Claire falling asleep by herself in her crib (I’ll explain more down below).
What We’ve Been Up To: Nothing much. Just having some restful/relaxful/family time nights and weekends at home the past couple of weeks. During this time we have been going through stuff and getting rid of things. We are nowhere near the “Marie Kondo Tidying Up”, but little by little we might get there someday.
What I’m Dreading: Having to get a cavity filled sometime in the next couple of weeks.
What I’m Working On: I am trying to work on this blog a little more. I have so many ideas I want to implement in this little space and so I am trying to work a little at a time and start making some progress on here. So hopefully you will see some little changes coming to this blog in the future!
What I’m Excited About: Getting to possibly go on a beach trip this summer with my side of the family! I don’t think I’ve been to the beach since our honeymoon and that was almost 8 years ago.
What I’m Watching/Reading:
- Watching: Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (season 2) and Robert and I watched Oceans 8 recently on a stay-at-home date night and it was a fun little movie.
- Reading: I have so many books checked out from the library that I want to read and don’t know if I’ll get to them before I have to return them. I’ve read 4 so far this month…hope to have my January book review post up sometime in the next couple of weeks.
What I’m Listening To: I am on a nutritional type podcast listening binge. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I am finding it so interesting how your diet/food choices affects your overall health and how changing what you put into your body can drastically change how you feel. I so want to start implementing a lot of what I am learning, but I am seeing how it is a big mental shift in your thinking and I am trying to gear myself up for that (I am also hoping to get Robert on board just enough to support me in this…not that he has to do it too, but I can’t do it myself and really want his support and accountability for it). I was doing really good eliminating gluten the first 2-3 weeks in January (and I felt SO much better), but then Claire got sick and I was just worn out and fell of the bandwagon. I am trying to get my mindset right to start again for February and hopefully stick to it better and listening to these podcasts are really helping me want to be motivated to do it.
What I’m Wearing: Warm clothes…as I am typing this the temperature is 15 degrees, but feels like 5 degrees. That’s pretty cold for us here in Arkansas. The funny thing is that it’s supposed to be 70 degrees this coming Monday. Crazy!
What I’m Doing This Weekend: Hopefully not much. I’m hoping the girls will play some together and I can just sit and read a book (or two) and maybe get some meal planning/prepping done!
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month: February is a slow month for us…nothing too big happening. I might go and spend a couple of nights with my sister and check out her wedding venue and get some ideas on how she wants to decorate it.
What Else Is New: Claire falling asleep by HERSELF in her crib!!! First, I will admit I do miss the cuddles/snuggles of rocking her to sleep, but it was starting to be more of a chore than anything. It was beginning to take me an hour (almost two hours at times) to rock her to sleep and it was wearing me out because I wasn’t able to do anything at night. I would start getting her ready for bed about 7:30 p.m. and then rock her until almost 9 p.m. at which time I was ready to go to bed. So it has been nice to have that hour back to spend time with Emmalyn or talk with Robert or pick up the house and get ready for the next day. We started putting her down by herself two Sundays ago and that first night she cried and cried. The second night she whimpered some, but wasn’t too upset…and then from the third night on until now, she has actually asked to go in her crib after we read and say our prayers and we don’t hear anything out of her until she wakes up in the middle of the night to come in bed with me. It has been soooo nice!!!
Bonus question – What is your favorite family Valentine’s Day tradition: I’m sorry to say we don’t have any traditions for Valentine’s Day, but I saw one on Facebook the other day that I think I am wanting to start doing for the girls. It’s where you cut up 14 hearts and write an affirmation or a message of love on each heart. Then every morning from February 1st to the 14th you stick one of the hearts somewhere where your child will see it (i.e. bedroom door, bathroom mirror, etc). I really am thinking about making this a tradition for our girls, I think it would be a sweet reminder of how loved they are and I think as they grow older it will be something that means a lot to them.
Until next time…keep it simple!
