Book Report – January 2019

It’s time for one of my favorite posts to do each month! I’m linking up with Steph and Jana for “Show Us Your Books”. I started off pretty strong for the month of January by reading four books and I enjoyed all of them. This month seemed to be the month of starting a book series…Every one of the books were part of a series and I didn’t realize that until now. Looking forward to reading more of these series in the coming months. Here are my January reads!

Dumplin’ – Julie Murphy

This book was a fun YA read. As someone who has pretty much always been on the heavier side of the scale, a lot of the thoughts/feelings that were mentioned I’ve had at one time or another. A lot of this book was a little overdone to me and not true to life, but the overall message of the book was sweet and endearing. The message of this book was about finding your inner confidence and loving who you are no matter what you look like or what size you may be. Looking forward to watching the Netflix movie now! 4/5 stars

Library – Hardcover

Puddin’ – Julie Murphy

This book was another fun YA read! This was the sequel to Dumplin’ and I think I liked this one better. Millie is just a very likeable character and you couldn’t help but root for her and her dreams! This quote was from the author which I think summed up both books (Dumplin’ and Puddin’) really well -“If Dumplin’ was about coming to terms with your own body, Puddin’ is about demanding that the world do the same. I wrote this book for all the fat kids who have waited too damn long for the world to accept them. Stop waiting. The revolution starts with and belongs to you.” Hoping that Netflix will come out with a movie on this book as well! 4/5 stars

Library – Hardcover

In the Woods – Tana French

To be honest, this book took me awhile to complete. I wanted to see it through to the end and I’m glad I did, but it took awhile. This book is about a murder of a young girl and a disappearance of kids years before in the same area. Are the two cases related…whatever happened to the two young kids…who murdered the young girl? About mid-way through I started to get more into it and wanted to see what happened and “who done it”. This book was slow for me and I feel like it was a little more wordier then it needed to be. I think it would have accomplished just as much with less words. However, with that being said I did enjoy it and am looking forward to reading the next book in this “Dublin Murder Squad” series. 3/5 stars

Library Overdrive – Kindle

Love Walked In – Marisa de los Santos

This book has been on my TBR list for years now. I believe I had heard about it through Modern Mrs Darcy originally. This was a book that started off slow for me, but then got interesting and I just wanted to keep reading to see how the characters’ stories played out. The author writes in a beautiful style that just flows. I enjoyed the characters and was invested in their lives and how they turned out. I was happy to hear there was another book to continue the story. 4/5 stars

Library – Hardcover

I’ve already read some really good books for February!

What are you currently reading now? Please share! I’m always on the lookout for more books to add to my TBR list!

Until next time…keep it simple!

I loved Dumplin’ and cannot wait to read Puddin’! I gave my MIL the Tana French book, but she sadly didn’t love it. Oh well. hehe 🙂 I have Love Walked in but have not read it yet. Glad to hear that you liked it! 🙂 XO – Alexandra

I totally agree with your review of In The Woods. It took me a long time to read and felt so slow, but I really liked it and enjoyed the second book too. Hoping to get to the third book at some point this year!

I love the Dublin Murder Squad series and I honestly think they get better as they go along. In the Woods was good but it’s not my favourite. I’m still hoping she’ll eventually publish a book where we find out what actually happened in the woods back then!
