Linking up with Shay at Mix and Match Mama for her “What’s Up Wednesdays” monthly post.
What We’re Eating This Week:
I think I’m going to make a recipe from the The Weeknight Dinner Cookbook one night this week. I’ve had this book for awhile and haven’t made anything from it yet, but there looks to be several yummy recipes in it! The hard part is choosing which one to try this week!
What I’m Reminiscing About:
I’ve been thinking a lot about some family things my family (Mom, Dad, and Amanda) used to do and how I thought we would be doing them with our kids as they grow up, but no….not anymore since the divorce. I mean Amanda and I can do it with the kids, but it’ll never be all of us together like I’ve always pictured and that makes me sad.
What I’m Loving:
Sitting out on our back porch either reading a book or talking with Robert in the nice spring/early summer weather we’ve been having. It’s been very relaxing!
What We’ve Been Up To:
We celebrated Claire’s 3rd birthday this month. Even though we are in this quarantine time, we tried to make it pretty special with donuts for breakfast, Face-Timing with her daycare friends so they could sing Happy Birthday to her, a Tangled birthday cake, and getting a scooter and camera. I think she had a fun and special day!
Also, we celebrated Emmalyn’s Kindergarten graduation with a drive-thru celebration at her school It was bitter-sweet. It’s not how we expected to end the school-year, but at least she got to see some of her classmates in the car line and see her teacher again.
Right after the drive-thru celebration, while we were in the car on the way back to daycare, Emmalyn lost one of her front teeth. And then two nights later, she lost one of her bottom teeth. Emmalyn was keeping the tooth fairy in business that week for sure!
What I’m Dreading:
Lots of doctor/dentist appointments coming up for both the girls and I due to rescheduling because of COVID-19.
What I’m Excited About:
Getting my hair cut next month!!!
What I’m Watching/Reading:
Watching: Not much really. We are still watching “Schitt’s Creek” (see previous month’s post)…I think we are almost to Season 4. We have been watching some of “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives“ and “House Hunters“ type shows. Robert and I enjoy them because they are somewhat relaxing and honestly the girls love to watch “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” with their daddy. It’s been a daddy/daughter show for them ever since Emmalyn was about Claire’s age.
Reading:
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I am flying through the “Virgin River” series by Robyn Carr (see post here for a little back story on how I found the series). For some reason, I am just hooked on them and I just feel like I am a part of their small town when I’m reading them. To me they are just easy to read and enjoyable and I guess I’m needing some sort of escapist type, easy reading right now with all the different things going on right now.
Check back next week for my list of books I read in May (spoiler alert – majority were “Virgin River” series books). Check out April’s book post here!
What I’m Listening To:
Nothing really. I’ve decided to cut back on listening to podcasts and audiobooks for a bit. I am needing a break…I think I was consuming too many things – social media, blogs, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. and it was starting to make me feel overwhelmed, stressed, and somewhat anxious. I’ve cut back the past two weeks on podcasts and social media and can tell it’s helped relieve some of those feelings already.
What I’m Wearing:
Back to work clothes five days a week. Blah….
What I’m Doing This Weekend:
Hopefully the weather will be pretty and we can be outside some this weekend!
What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month:
Possibly going to visit my sister. It all depends on how the COVID-19 cases are looking, but I’m ready to see her and my nephew. It’s been too long! They live in a small town and when we are there we mainly just stay at their house, so I don’t feel like there would be much exposure other than driving down there and trying to not stop for bathroom breaks and such. We’ll see how things are in a couple of weeks and decide if we should go for it or keep on waiting….
What Else Is New:
Nothing really, just trying to get the girls acclimated to going back to childcare five days a week. Getting back to earlier bedtimes in order to get up early and out the door by a certain time…fun times. In all honesty, the girls have done very well with it and I’m pretty proud of them for getting back into the swing of things like they have.
Until next time…keep it simple!
